Heartbroken African-American father, Carl Lee Hailey, kills two rapists who raped and tried to hang his ten years old daughter, Tonya. He then recruits Jake Brigance to defend him. Unfortunately, Jake has to go up against not only an all-white racist jury in Canton, Mississippi but the Ku Klux Klan and racist US police officers.
