Chiwetel Umeadi Ejiofor began his screen career with the TV-movie ‘Deadly Voyage’ (1996), followed by a supporting role in Spielberg’s ‘Amistad’ (1997).
Along with his award-winning theater work, Ejiofor appeared in films, playing his first lead role in ‘It Was an Accident’ (2000), followed by ‘Dirty Pretty Things,’ which won him accolades. Thereafter, he appeared on TV’s ‘The Knight’s Tale’ and ‘Trust’ (2003).
Ejiofor starred in ‘Love Actually’ (2003), ‘Red Dust’ (2004), ‘Serenity’ (2005), ‘Children of Men’ (2006), ‘Talk to Me’ (2007), and earned nominations for ‘Kinky Boots’ (2005), the TV-miniseries ‘Tsunami: The Aftermath’ (2006), and the drama-series ‘Dancing on the Edge’ (2013).
He debuted as writer-director with the short-film ‘Slapper’ (2008), and starred in the hit-movie ‘2012’ (2009). Ejiofor’s performance as ‘Solomon Northup’ in ’12 Years a Slave’ (2013) brought high acclaim and nominations.
His notable films include ‘Endgame’ (2009), ‘Salt’ (2010), ‘Half a Yellow Sun’ (2013), ‘Doctor Strange’ (2016), ‘Mary Magdalene’ (2018), the computer-animated ‘The Lion King’ (2019). He was the narrator for the TV-film ‘Partition: The Day India Burned’ (2007), and the documentary film ‘The Elephant Queen’ (2019).
After debuting as feature-film director with ‘The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind’ (2019), he starred in ‘Locked down’ (2021) and ‘Infinite’ (2021).
