Ian David McShane made his film debut in ‘The Wild & the Willing’ (1962), while his first TV-series was ‘Redcap’ (1964).
McShane featured in films ‘Sky West & Crooked’ (1965), ‘Battle of Britain’ (1989), and as the protagonist in the series ‘You Can’t Win’ (1966) and the TV-play ‘Whose Life is it Anyway?’ (1972). He also appeared in series ‘Wuthering Heights’ (1967), ‘Jesus of Nazareth’ (1977), ‘Disraeli’ (1978). He then starred in films ‘Freelance,’ ‘Villain’ (both 1971), ‘Ransom’ (1974), ‘Yesterday’s Hero’ (1979), and ‘Sexy Beast’ (2000).
McShane received wide recognition for the title role in the series ‘Lovejoy’ (1986-1994), and also the soap-opera ‘Dallas’ (1989). He won accolades for the Western-series ‘Deadwood’ (2004-2006).
McShane provided voice in ‘Shrek the Third’ (2007), ‘Coraline’ (2009), and earned nominations for ‘Kung Fu Panda’ (2008). He then starred in ‘Babylon 5: The River of Souls’ (1998), ‘The Golden Compass’ (2007), ‘Hot Rod’ (2007), ‘Death Race’ (2008). He then appeared in the series ‘The West Wing’ (2002), the miniseries ‘The Pillars of the Earth’ (2010), ‘Game of Thrones’ (2016), and earned praise for ‘Kings’ (2009).
McShane won nominations for ‘Pirates of Caribbean: On Stranger Tides’ (2011), and featured in ‘Jack the Giant Slayer’ (2013), ‘Deadwood: The Movie’ (2019), and many more.
