Wil Wheaton made his acting debut in the 1981 television film ‘A Long Way Home.’ The following year, he made an appearance in the American anthology series ‘CBS Schoolbreak Special.’ Around the same time, he made his debut as a voice actor in the American animated fantasy-adventure film ‘The Secret of NIMH.’ He went on to make brief appearances in several television series and shows such as ‘Highway to Heaven’ (1985), and ‘St. Elsewhere’ (1986), ‘Disneyland’ (1987), Wheaton joined the lead cast of American science fiction television series ‘Star Trek: The Next Generation’ in 1987. He played the role of ‘Wesley Crusher’ and remained a part of the show until it went off-air in 1994.
In 1991, he starred as Joseph "Joey" Trotta in the American action film ‘Toy Soldiers,’ directed by Daniel Petrie Jr. The film received a lukewarm response from critics and was an average success at the box office. He was next seen in films like ‘The Liars' Club’ (1993), ‘Mr. Stitch’ (1995), ‘Pie in the Sky’ (1996), and ‘Boys' Night Out’ (1996). The year 1997 saw the release of the American science-fiction comedy film ‘Flubber’ where Wheaton starred as ‘Bennett Hoenicker.’ While the film opened to negative reviews, it managed to become a commercial success.
Wheaton then starred in films like ‘The Day Lincoln Was Shot’ (1998), ‘The Girls' Room’ (2000), ‘Jane White Is Sick & Twisted’ (2002), ‘Star Trek Nemesis’ (2002), ‘Neverland’ (2003), and ‘Americanizing Shelley’ (2007). He also maintained his presence on television and appeared in several series and shows, such as ‘Diagnosis: Murder’ (1998), ‘The Invisible Man’ (2001), ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ (2008), ‘Criminal Minds’ (2008), ‘The Big Bang Theory’ (2009-2019), ‘Dark Matter’ (2015-2016), and ‘Supergirl’ (2019).
He was last seen in the 2020 American thriller film ‘Rent-A-Pal’ directed by Jon Stevenson. The film received a positive response from critics.
