Rob Lowe is an American actor who, starting his career on the ABC sitcom ‘A New Kind of Family’ (1979-80), emerged as a teen idol in the 1980s with some of his best movies such as ‘The Outsiders’ (1983), ‘Oxford Blues’ (1984), ‘St. Elmo's Fire’ (1985), and ‘About Last Night...’ (1986). He received ‘Golden Globe’ nomination for his portrayal of the mentally disabled Rory in ‘Square Dance’ (1987).
In the following years, personal scandals affected his career, but he managed to appear in successful films like ‘Wayne's World’ (1992), ‘Contact’ (1997), ‘Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me’ (1999), ‘Sex Tape’ (2014) and ‘How to Be a Latin Lover’ (2017). However, one of his best roles was as Sam Seaborn in the television series ‘The West Wing’ (1999-2003, 2006), which earned him one ‘Emmy’ and two ‘Golden Globe’ nominations. He next executive produced and starred in the NBC drama, ‘The Lyon's Den’ (2003), which proved to be a failure, as did ‘Dr. Vegas’ (2004). He found success with ‘Brothers & Sisters’ (2006-10) and the political comedy ‘Parks and Recreation’ (2010-15), following which he starred in the legal drama ‘The Grinder’ (2015-16) and voiced Simba in ‘The Lion Guard’ (2016-present).
