Jim Carrey first appeared in the television series ‘The All-Night Show’ in 1980. He made his film debut with the 1983 sex comedy ‘The Sex and Violence Family Hour’ directed by Harvey Frost. Following his big-screen debut, he went on to star in films like ‘Finders Keepers’ (1984), ‘Once Bitten’ (1985), ‘Peggy Sue Got Married’ (1986), ‘Earth Girls Are Easy’ (1988), and ‘Itsy Bitsy Spider’ (1992).
The year 1994 saw 3 releases of Carrey namely, ‘Ace Ventura: Pet Detective,’ ‘The Mask,’ and ‘Dumb and Dumber.’ All three films were a massive hit at the box office and earned Carrey several award nominations. In 1997, he joined the cast of the fantasy comedy film ‘Liar Liar’ directed by Tom Shadyac. The film opened to a positive reception and was a major box office hit. He was next seen playing the role of ‘Truman Burbank’ in the American psychological comedy-drama film ‘The Truman Show’ for which he won a ‘Golden Globe Award’ for ‘Best Actor – Motion Picture Drama.’ The film opened to universal acclaim and made big numbers at the box office. Carrey bagged another ‘Golden Globe Award’ for his performance as ‘Andy Kaufman / Tony Clifton / Latka Gravas’ in the 1999 biographical comedy-drama film ‘Man on the Moon.’
The year 2003 saw the release of the American comedy film ‘Bruce Almighty’ directed by Tom Shadyac where Carrey was seen playing the role of ‘Bruce Nolan / Bruce Almighty.’ While the film received a mixed response from critics, it managed to come out as a massive box office success and became one of the highest-grossing films of 2003. Carrey went on to star in films like ‘Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind’ (2004), ‘The Number 23’ (2007), ‘Yes Man’ (2008), ‘A Christmas Carol’ (2009), ‘Mr. Popper's Penguins’ (2011), ‘Kick-Ass 2’ (2013), ‘Dumb and Dumber To’ (2014), and ‘Dark Crimes’ (2016).
Carrey was last seen playing ‘Dr. Robotnik’ in the 2020 American adventure comedy film ‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ directed by Jeff Fowler. The film received a positive response from critics and was a commercial success. He is all set to appear in the upcoming detective comedy film ‘Ace Ventura 3.’ He will also be seen in ‘Sonic the Hedgehog 2’ where he will reprise his role as ‘Dr. Robotnik.’
