Actor, director, and producer Mel Ferrer started his career in the entertainment industry as a teenager in Summer Stock theatre in the 1930s. He made his Broadway debut at the age of 21, playing the role of a chorus dancer in two unsuccessful musicals titled ‘You Never Know’ and ‘Everywhere I Roam’. He suffered a bout of polio due to which he had to take up the job of DJ, and later wrote a novel titled ‘Tito’s Hat’ which was published in 1940.
Columbia Pictures gave him contract as a director and was credited with films like ‘They Live in Fear’ (1944) and ‘Ten Cents a Dance’ (1945). He got back to acting and appeared in super hits like ‘The Fall of the Roman Empire’ (1964) and ‘Second Breath’ (1966). His movies ‘The Night Visitor’ (1971) and ‘Brannigan’ (1975) did not do too well. Ferrer received positive reviews for his performance as Fritz Gerlich in the television serial ‘Wonder Woman’ (1977 – 1978). He also appeared in popular serials like ‘Marcus Welby, M.D.’ (1974) and ‘Murder She Write’ (1985 – 1989).
