The following year, he starred as ‘Murk’ in the American superhero film ‘Aquaman’ directed by James Wan. While the film received mixed to positive reviews from critics, it turned out to be a major commercial success and managed to gross over $1.148 billion on a $160–200 million budget. In 2020, he played the role of ‘Derek Ang’ in the American biographical historical drama film ‘Son of the South’ directed by Barry Alexander Brown. The film holds a 61% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The following year, he portrayed ‘Liu Kang’ in the martial arts fantasy film ‘Mortal Kombat’ directed by Simon McQuoid. The film received mixed reviews from critics and grossed over $84.4 million on a budget of $55 million. That same year, he also joined the cast of the American martial arts action-adventure television series ‘Kung Fu’ as ‘Kerwin Tan.’ The series was renewed for a third season in March 2022.
