Aditi Rao Hydari began her acting journey in 2004 when she was cast as ‘Devdasi’ in the Tamil film titled ‘Sringaram.’ The film was screened at different international film festivals before seeing a theatrical release in 2007. Upon release, the film received positive reviews from critics. She was next seen in the 2009 Hindi drama ‘Delhi 6,’ directed by Rakesh Omprakash Mehra.Â
In 2011, Hydari got her breakthrough role as ‘Shanti’ in the Sudhir Mishra-directed crime thriller ‘Yeh Saali Zindagi.’ She earned great praise for her performance and even bagged a ‘Screen Award’ for ‘Best Supporting Actress.’ That same year, she also earned a ‘Producers Guild Film Award’ nomination for her role as ‘Sheena’ in the musical drama film ‘Rockstar.’ She went on to star in films like ‘London, Paris, New York’ (2012), ‘Murder 3’ (2013), and ‘Guddu Rangeela’ (2015).Â
She played the role of ‘Young Hazrat’ in the 2016 romantic drama film ‘Fitoor’ directed by Abhishek Kapoor. While the film failed to make a mark at the box office, Hydari received praise for her performance. That following year, she starred as ‘Dr. Leela Abraham’ in the Tamil-language romantic war film ‘Kaatru Veliyidai’ for which she won the ‘SIIMA Award’ for ‘Best Debut Tamil Actress.’Â
The year 2018 saw the release of the highly anticipated period drama romantic film ‘Padmaavat.’ Hydari earned critical acclaim for her portrayal of ‘Mehrunisa’ and even received the ‘IIFA Award’ for ‘Best Supporting Actor (Female). ‘Padmaavat’ was a massive critical and box office success and went on to become one of the highest-grossing Indian films of all time. That same year, Hydari also starred in the Telugu-language romantic drama ‘Sammohanam.’ The film opened to positive reviews and was a commercial success.Â
In 2021, Hydari appeared in the Telugu-language romantic action drama film 'Maha Samudram,' where she played the role of ‘Maha.’ She is all set to appear in the upcoming romantic comedy film ‘Hey Sinamika’ directed by Brinda.
