American actor and producer Tom Selleck got his big break after a long wait when he was cast for the lead role in the crime drama television serial ‘Magnum, P.I.’ (1980 – 1988). His interest in firearms and outdoors made him an ideal star for thrillers and western movies. His hits at the box office include ‘Midway’ (1976), ‘The Shadow Riders’ (1982), ‘Three Men and a Baby’ (1987) and the ‘Jesse Stones’ series between 2005 and 2015. He has appeared in a number of television serials including ‘Charlie’s Angels’ (1976), ‘Murder She Wrote’ (1986) and ‘Blue Bloods’ (2010 till date).
His movies ‘Killers’ (2010), ‘Running Mates’ (2000) and ‘Mr Baseball’ (1992) were failures at the box office. Tom became known for his quote “Unless you treat failure as part of the journey, you’re never going to get anywhere”. This philosophy of his has kept him going till today.
Tom Selleck is identified with his moustache and manly outdoor looks. Fans look upon him as the daring macho man. In a rare appearance he was seen without a moustache in the film ‘In & Out’ (1997). He also appeared in the Broadway show ‘A Thousand Clowns’ without his trademark.
