Ronda Rousey is an American Olympian, mixed martial artist, and actress. After a successful campaign in the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, where she won a bronze medal in judo, she became an MMA fighter, later joining Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) as their inaugural Women's Bantamweight Champion. At the height of her career, she had won 12 consecutive fights, 11 of which she had finished within the first round. Inevitably, Hollywood came calling. In the ensuing years, she has shown incredible promise of filling the void of a female action star in a list of films and television series that includes ‘The Expendables 3’ (2014), ‘Furious 7’ (2015), Entourage (2015), ‘Fighter in the Sky’ (2016), ‘Drunk History’ (2016), and ‘Blindspot’ (2017).
Her filmography reveals her preference for action movies, with her outing as Luna in ‘The Expendables 3’ being her best role to date. ‘Furious 7’, where she played Kara, a female bodyguard to a billionaire Jordanian prince, was a top-grossing Ronda Rousey film at the box-office, earning $1.5 billion worldwide. In her short career, she has faced her share of failure as well. The critically-panned and commercially-disappointing ‘Entourage’ is the worst film she has been part of. Following her defeat to Holly Holm as an MMA fighter, the remake of 1989’s ‘Road House’, a project she was to star in, was taken out of production.
