Jill Clayburgh is remembered for her portrayal of strong independent women on stage as well as on the big screen. She started her career on stage with actor Al Pacino in plays like ‘American Hurrah’ and ‘The Indian Wants the Bronx.’ She made her Broadway debut in the play ‘The Sudden and Accidental Re-Education of Horse Johnson’ in 1968. Clayburgh made her first appearance on the big screen in the movie ‘The Wedding Party’ (1969) opposite Robert De Niro. The movie received mixed reviews. She made her breakthrough with her role in ‘An Unmarried Woman’ (1978) for which she was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actress. This was closely followed by her highest rated performance in the comedy film ‘Starting Over’ (1979). During the 1980s, her movies were not that successful due to which she concentrated on television movies. Her movie ‘I’m Dancing as Fast as I Can’ (1981) received negative reviews. She appeared as a guest in the popular television series ‘Frasier’ (1998) and received positive reviews for her role as Letitia Darling in ‘Dirty Sexy Money’ (2007 – 2009).
