Della Reese was an American jazz gospel singer and actress, best known for her talk show ‘Della,’ which aired its first episode in 1969 and continued for around 197 episodes. She is also remembered for her role as ‘Tess’ in the TV show ‘Touched by an Angel’ (1994–2003). She earned a ‘Primetime Emmy Award, ‘Golden Globe Award’ and SAG Award’ nomination for her performance in the series. She started her career as a successful singer and made her acting debut in 1969 with her own talk show. After the show cancelled in 1970, she appeared in the TV show ‘The Bold Ones: The New Doctors.’ She became a series regular on the sitcom ‘Chico and the Man,’ from 1975 to 1978. Some of her popular films are ‘Harlem Nights’ (1989), ‘Beauty Shop’ (2005), and ‘Expecting Mary’ (2009). Her unsuccessful films include ‘Psychic Killer’ (1975), ‘Me Again’ (2012), and ‘Christmas Angel’ (2012).
