Dev Patel had no prior professional acting experience when he made his debut with ‘Skins,’ the British television teen drama series where he portrayed Anwar Kharral. He rose to prominence with his performance in ‘Slumdog Millionaire,’ the drama film where he played the lead role of Jamal Malik. The film bagged in an ‘Academy Award’ in the ‘Best Picture’ category and Patel earned the ‘SAG Award’ and the ‘BAFTA Award’ nomination. He has been a part of highly successful movies like, ‘The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel,’ and its sequel ‘The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel.’ In 2010, he starred in ‘The Last Airbender,’ an action-fantasy adventure film. Though the film was commercially hit, yet it received extremely negative reviews and was a critical failure. He won an ‘NAACP Image Award’ nomination for his performance in ‘The Newsroom,’ the HBO television series where he played Neal Sampat. In 2015, he starred in ‘Lion,’ the biographical drama film for which he earned the ‘BAFTA Award’ and was nominated for the ‘Academy Award,’ ‘Golden Globe Award,’ and ‘SAG Award.’ He also starred in ‘Chappie,’ and ‘The Man Who Knew Infinity,’ another biographical drama film.
