His movie ‘Intolerance’ (1916) was a sequel to ‘The Birth of a Nation.’
His silent film ‘In Old California’ (1910) is the first film to be shot in Hollywood. In 1941, he produced and directed the feature film ‘Judith of Bethulia’ that received positive reviews for his direction. However, his movies did not achieve success at the box office because they were considered to be too long and expensive.
His hit films include ‘Broken Blossoms’ (1919), ‘Way Down East’ (1920) and ‘Orphans of the Storm’ (1921). ‘Lady of the Pavements’ (1929) was a part-talkie film with a musical sound track. ‘Abraham Lincoln’ (1930) and ‘The Struggle’ (1931) are his only two movies with full sound track.
