Claudine Auger began her acting career while still in school. Her first (uncredited) appearance was in the French period-drama ‘Christine’ (1958).
Auger played a ballerina in Jean Cocteau’s ‘Testament of Orpheus’ (1960). Next, she played minor roles in ‘Terrain Vague’ (1960), ‘The Seven Deadly Sins’ (1962), ‘La masque de fer’ (1962) and fantasy-film ‘Kali Yug: Goddess of Vengeance’ (1963) wherein she was cast by her then-husband Pierre Gaspard-Huit.
Further, Auger appeared in drama-film ‘Games of Desire’ (1964) and comedy-film ‘Yo Yo’ (1965). While on vacation, she was spotted and asked to audition for Bond-film ‘Thunderball.’ Impressed with Auger the producers changed the role of Italian woman to French leading lady. However, finally her dialogues were dubbed. The fame brought in more roles and a Playboy centerspread.
In 1966 Auger starred in crime-film ‘That Man George,’ and comedy-films ‘Treasure of San Gennaro’ and ‘The Devil in Love.’ The same year she also starred alongside Yul Brynner and Christopher Plummer in Bond-film director Terence Young’s WWII spy-film ‘Triple Cross,’ and with Bing Crosby on American TV’s ‘Danny Thomas Special.’
Next, Auger starred in comedy-films ‘The Killing Game,’ and ‘The Head of the Family’ (both 1967) and 1968’s ‘Escalation,’ war-drama ‘Adriatic Sea of Fire,’ comedy-film ‘Listen, Let’s Make Love,’ and crime-film ‘The Cats.’
Auger and first Bond-girl Ursula Andress co-starred in comedy-film ‘Anyone can Play’ (1968), and in giallo (mystery-fiction, thriller) film ‘The Black Belly of the Tarantula’ (1971) she appeared with Barbara Bouchet and Barbara Bach who later starred as Bond-girls.
Auger’s further starrers include giallo-slasher ‘Twitch of the Death Nerve’ (1971), ‘A Few Hours of Sunlight’ (1971), comedy-film ‘Gli ordini sono ordini’ (1972), ‘L’Intrepide’ (1975), crime-thriller ‘Flic Story’ (1975), ‘Il Colpaccio’ (1976), sci-fi film ‘The Bermuda Triangle’ (1978) and others.
Auger co-starred with Goldie Hawn in comedy-film ‘Lovers and Liars’ (1979) followed by comedy-film ‘The Associate’ (1979), musical-film ‘Fantasia’ (1980) and ‘Black Jack’ (1981). Her 1984 drama-film ‘Secret Places,’ based on Janice Elliott’s novel, received good response at ‘Toronto film festival.’ She also appeared in several TV-series and TV-movies.
Auger’s later movies include crime-drama ‘Il Pentito’ (1985), coming-of-age film ‘Exploits of Young Don Juan’ (1986), romantic-drama films ‘The Sparrow’s Fluttering’ (1988) and ‘Salt on our Skin’ (1992) and her final feature-film ‘Men Always Lie’ (1995).
