Mary Jane West, popularly known as Mae West, was an American actress, singer, and writer. She started her career as a child artist and went on to pen several plays before entering Hollywood. As a playwright, West wrote the play ‘Sex’ (1926) for which she was arrested on charges of obscenity. Her next play ‘Diamond Lil’ (1928) became a Broadway hit.
