Danish actor Lars Dittmann Mikkelsen, winner of ‘Reumert Prize of Honour,’ began his acting journey in 1995 with Danish TV-films ‘Mappen’ and ‘Lille John.’ He then appeared in film ‘Royal Blues’ and TV-series ‘Strisser pa Samso’ in 1997, followed by 1999 Danish-films ‘Seth,’ and ‘Under Overfladen.’
Further, Mikkelsen starred in Danish drama-film ‘Kira’s Reason: A Love Story’ (2000), and award-winning political-thriller ‘King’s Game’ (2004). He played ‘Pirate Captain’ in Danish-sitcom ‘Langt fra Las Vegas’ (2001) and appeared in several episodes of TV-series ‘Nikolaj og Julie’ (2001), ‘Rejscholdet’ (2002), and drama-series ‘Kroniken’ (2004-2007) amongst others.
After appearing in Danish film ‘Nordkraft’ (2005), Mikkelsen starred as ‘Necromancer’ in Danish fantasy-film ‘Island of Lost Souls’ (2007) and as ‘Lasse Damgaard’ in horror-film ‘Cecilie’ (2007).
Next, Mikkelsen starred in Danish police-procedural drama-series ‘Forbrydelsen’ (2007) which was broadcast internationally as ‘The Killing.’ He starred in Danish crime-series ‘Those Who Kill’ (2011) and season-3 of political drama-series ‘Borgen’ (2013-2022), both of which gained international popularity.
Mikkelsen appeared (in main role) in two episodes of British mystery-crime-series ‘Sherlock’ (2014) and had a recurring role in European crime-drama-series ‘The Team’ (2015). He played ‘Russian President Petrov’ in streaming political-thriller series ‘House of Cards’ (2015-2018). His role as ‘Johannes’ in Danish drama-series ‘Herrens Veje’ (2017) and its English version ‘Ride upon the Storm,’ fetched him ‘International Emmy for Best Performance by Lead Actor.’
Mikkelsen also appeared in TV-miniseries ‘1864’ (2014), Netflix-series ‘The Witcher’ (2019-present), drama-series ‘Devils’ (2020), ‘Grow’ (2020), ‘Badehotellet’ (2021) and ‘The Kingdom’ (2022).
After starring in Danish political-thriller film ‘What No One Knows’ (2008), and historical-drama film ‘Flame & Citron’ (2008), Mikkelsen’s lead role as ‘Martin Vinge’ in Danish thriller-film ‘Headhunter’ (2009) won him ‘Robert Award for Best Actor.’
Mikkelsen’s notable starrers include Irish film ‘What Robert Did’ (2012), Danish drama-film ‘A Caretaker’s Tale’ (2012), British action-film ‘Montana’ (2014), Danish horror-drama ‘When Animals Dream’ (2014), Danish war-film ‘April 9th’ (2015), and award-winning Danish drama-films ‘The Day Will Come’ (2016) and ‘Winter Brothers’ (2017).
Mikkelsen also appeared in other films including ‘Daughters’ (2014), ‘Nordic Factory’ (2014), ‘Danny’s Doomsday’ (2014) and more.
Mikkelsen provided voice as ‘Gen. MacMission’ in animated comedy-film ‘Monsters vs. Aliens’ (2009) and as ‘Grand Admiral Thrawn’ in 3D animated sci-fi series ‘Star War Rebels’ (2016-2018). He was narrator for short-film ‘The Dam Keeper’ (2014), TV-series ‘Historien om Danmark’ (2017), and miniseries ‘Greensland’ (2020).
The Day Will Come is a drama film which takes us to an orphanage in 1967, where the children have to face sexual abuse violence on a daily basis along with medical experiments. The film tells the story of two inseparable brothers Elmer and Erik, and how they deal with their everyday problems.
